About Us

The Dog House, Newcastle was established in 2014 and specialises in small to medium sized dogs.

Hannah, the owner of The Dog House, opened the salon from her home in her garage. 4 years on she had outgrown the space and moved to a commercial property.

The salon is a small grooming boutique where you can walk in to a friendly, clean atmosphere where you and your dog feel right at home.
We do not cage dogs, all dogs either roam free or are in a large play pen.

The Dog House works by appointment only and only has 1-3 dogs in the salon at a time. This keeps us efficient and keeps the salon calm and stress free.
Most dogs stay at the salon for roughly 1.5 hours. We do not keep them all day.

The Dog House, has a fantastic reputation and has been finalists in the Local business awards up against many other grooming salons. We are also in the top 3 on "Best rated grooming businesses."

We continue to further our education in the industry by attending grooming seminars around Australia and all team members are highly trained in what they do.

Our main priority is to keep everyone safe and calm while providing fantastic customer service and a personal experience for you and your dog.

Salon Policies

Our main priority is to keep all our clients and our staff safe and happy, this is why we have salon policies in place. We do not have these policies to be rude or degrading.

Please read our salon policies before entering our salon.

  • All dogs must be up to date with vaccinations or be titre tested.

  • Bitches in season will not be accepted

  • All dogs must be brought to the salon on lead, this ensures their safety near the road.

  • Please toilet your dog prior to entering our salon and that any mess is picked up appropriately.  We are happy to supply a bag.

  • If you are unable to attend your appointment please give us at least 24hrs notice,

  • Appointments will be cancelled if you are more than 15 minutes late. * Unless notice is given*

  • We do not believe in dematting a dog, this process is very painful, can be very stressful and can cause irritation to your dog, If your dog does come in matted, for the welfare of the dog we will clip it off short. *Extra charges apply

  • All dogs must be up to date with flea and tick prevention. We do not groom dogs with fleas. Every dog will be checked over on check in and will be sent home if they have fleas.

  • We don't groom aggressive dogs, if your dog does show signs of aggression we will contact you immediately to pick up your dog. We do not want to risk injury to the dog or staff.

  • We do not accept new dogs who are over the age of 12 years old. New and unfamiliar places can cause lots of stress to older dogs and we highly recommend you stick with your regular groomer who your dog is familiar with. If you do believe your older dog would be fine, or if for some reason you can't stay with previous groomer we are happy to help but if anything does happen we will stop the grooming process straight away and ask you to pick them up.

  • We do not use sedation on any dogs for any reason.

  • We do not groom loud, noisy dogs as we have to respect our neighbours.
